Dedication and open house set for new Center for Emergency Medicine at Trumbull Memorial Hospital

(Warren, OH July 27, 2006) Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital will dedicate the new Center for Emergency Medicine on Thursday, August 3, 2006. An open house and preview for the general public will be held from Noon 2 p.m. at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, 1350 East Market Street, Warren, OH.

“The new state-of the art Center for Emergency Medicine at Trumbull Memorial Hospital will provide comprehensive, advanced care for our community,” said Kevin M. Spiegel, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer. “Most of all, it represents our commitment to the community and dedication to quality by providing premier health care with modern facilities, leading edge technology and specialized programs.”

The new Center for Emergency Medicine responds to the specific health care needs of Trumbull County residents now and in the future. Latest national statistics indicate that each year people are making more visits to the emergency departmenta trend that is projected to continue.

Enlarged by 39 percent, the Center for Emergency Medicine includes a complete redesign that brings together state-of-the art technology and a well-trained, experienced staff for a more cohesive department to enhance the level of care and handle the expected increase of patient volume.

“The expansion adds a new dimension to the level of care for emergency, critical care and cardiovascular programs,” said James M. Sudimack, M.D., President of the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Medical Staff and Chief of the TMH Center For Emergency Medicine. “With two trauma suites equipped with state-of-the-art technology and the recent addition of a staff traumatologist who has specialized

training in surgical critical care medicine, more definitive and better care can be provided for patients with traumatic injuries.” Two trauma CT scanners and a digital radiography system further enhance our trauma services.

A new Chest Pain Center, accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers is also located within the new 14,170 square foot department. Three dedicated suites with specialized advanced technology allow a multidisciplinary staff to rapidly identify and facilitate the care of patients with acute coronary symptoms and other cardiovascular conditions. “Patients with chest pain are quickly diagnosed and receive treatment faster to save lives,” said Dr. Sudimack.

Other features include consolidated emergency and fast track areas, two triage areas, dual nursing and charting stations, 29 treatment rooms, five ambulance bays, helipad and specialized suites for pediatrics, ENT (ear, nose and throat) and sexual assault. A family consultation/grieving room and a regional improved decontamination area are also part of the expansion.

The new Center for Emergency Medicine addition completes about two-thirds of the overall expansion. Although the new patient entrance, triage, registration, waiting areas and ambulance areas open at 7 a.m. on Monday, August 7, renovation will continue through the end of the year.
