Lupus Causes and Symptoms

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease, meaning that your immune system — which generally fights invaders and infections — mistakenly attacks its own healthy tissue and organs instead.

There are several types and subtypes of lupus, but (SLE) is the most common and serious type since it affects all areas of the body. SLE causes inflammation of connective tissues in the joints, which can then spread to nearby organs and tissues. The most common symptoms are fatigue, weight loss, fever, joint pain, and muscle pain.

Conventional treatment focuses on managing symptoms.
